AGÜ’de ve Kayseri’de Öğrenci Olmak I Being a Student of AGU in Kayseri
Öğrencinin gelişimi ve kendine kattığı değerler açısından öğrenim gördüğü şehir oldukça önemli bir unsur. Aynı zamanda üniversite yılları kişinin kendi ayakları üzerinde durmak üstüne yoğunlaştığı ve yeni çevreler, arkadaşlıklar, dostluklar geliştirdiği yıllardır. Şüphesiz ki bu yıllar yaşamın en değerli zamanlarından. Bu sebeplerden ötürü, üniversite yıllarınızı geçirdiğiniz şehir, kişisel gelişim ve edinilecek sayısız deneyimler açısından oldukça değerli. Üniversitelerin sizlere sunduğu imkanlar bulundukları şehirlere ve o şehrin yapısına göre değişiklik gösterebilir. Bazı şehirler popülasyon olarak yoğun, aynı zamanda sıkışık olurken; bazıları ise görece yoğun olmayan nüfusu ve sakinliği ile öne çıkabilmekte. Şehirlerin yanı sıra üniversitelerdeki öğrenci nüfusu da önemli bir etken. Bu yazımda halihazırda öğrenciliğimi sürdürmekte olduğum Abdullah Gül Üniversitesi ve Kayseri şehri özelinde bu konudan bahsedeceğim.
Kayseri diğer büyükşehirlerden farklı olarak nüfusuna oranla sakin ve ulaşımı oldukça kolay bir şehir. Özellikle öğrenciler için büyük şehirlere oranla ekonomik olması da bir avantaj. Eğer AGÜ öğrenci köyünde kalıyorsanız zaten okula ulaşımınız yürüme mesafesinde. Öğrenci köyünde kalmayanlar ise genellikle Talas ilçesini tercih ediyor ve buradan okula ulaşmak ise sık geçen otobüslerle ya da tramvay üstünden aktarmayla mümkün ve oldukça kolay. Okuldan şehir merkezine ulaşım diğer üniversitelerin aksine isterseniz yürüme mesafesinde yahut otobüsle 5 dakika gibi bir sürede mümkün. Kışın soğuk geçmesi sıcak havayı sevenler için bir devazantaj olsa da Erciyes Dağı’nın da burada olması kış sporları açısından, aynı zamanda snowboard ve kayak öğrenmek için oldukça güzel bir olanak. Diğer sporlara göre pahalı olabilen bu spor hele ki AGÜ’de öğrenci iseniz sizin için çok daha kolay bir hale geliyor. Çünkü, AGÜ öğrencilerine sosyal olanaklar konusunda gerçekten nitelikli ve ulaşılabilir imkanlar sağlıyor. Örneğin şubat ayı içerisinde haftasonları kampüsten ulaşım sağlanarak öğrencilere Erciyes’te kayak eğitimi verilecek. Aynı zamanda bu yıl hizmete açılan AGÜ Fitness Center’da öğrencilerin kullanımına sunuldu. İnternet üzerinden randevu alarak bu hizmetten ücretsiz bir şekilde faydalanabiliyorsunuz. Okulun nüfusunun diğer üniversitelere göre oldukça az olması öğrenciler için bu ve benzeri konularda önemli bir fırsat. Öğrenci etkinlikleri ve bilimsel etkinlikler AGÜ’de oldukça yaygın ve katılımı kolay. Kendi bölümünüzle ilgili ya da ilgi duyduğunuz konular üzerine bir çok panel ve konferanslar görebilirsiniz. AGÜ öğrencisi olmanın en büyük artılarından biri de tabiki İngilizce hazırlık eğitimi. Hazırlık senesi boyunca ortalama standartların çok üstünde ve Türkiye’de sayılı üniversitenin sahip olduğu bir İngilizce eğitimi alıyoruz. Okuldaki uluslarası öğrenciler ise sizlere daha fazla dil geliştirme pratiği yapma imkanı sunuyor. Üniversitedeki bütün bölümlerin İngilizce eğitim verdiğini hesaba katarsak hazırlık eğitimi şüphesiz bir kilit taşı niteliğinde. Genel olarak AGÜ ve Kayseri özelinde değinebileceğim noktalar bu şekildeydi. Öğrenci olarak bu zamanları iyi değerlendirmeli ve tecrübelerimizi artırarak, fırsatları kullanıp mezun olduğumuzda birçok artıyı bünyemize katmış olmalıyız. Tüm öğrenciler için güzel bir yıl olması dileğiyle.
The city where a student is studying is very important in terms of self-improvement and values one gains. At the same time, university years are when one concentrates on standing on one's own two feet and making new circles of acquaintances and friends. Undoubtedly, these years are one of the most precious times in one's life. For these reasons, the city where you spend your university years is very valuable in terms of personal development and countless experiences to be gained. What a university can offer changes based on the city it is located in and the composition of that city. While some cities are densely populated and cramped, some can stand out with relatively sparse population and calmness. Student population of universities is an important factor in addition to cities. In this article, I will elaborate on these topics focusing on Abdullah Gül University and the city of Kayseri where I currently study.
Kayseri is a quiet city with a developed public transport system considering its population, unlike other metropolitan cities. It is also an advantage that the city is economical, especially for students compared to the big ones. If you stay at the AGU student village, you are already within walking distance to the university. Those who do not stay at the Student Village usually prefer Talas district, and it is possible and quite easy to reach the university from there by frequent buses or transferring from tram. Going to the city center from the university is possible on foot or in 5 minutes by bus, thus easier compared to most universities. Although the cold winter is a disadvantage for those who love the warm weather, the fact that Mount Erciyes is also here is a very nice opportunity for winter sports, learning snowboarding and skiing. Winter sports could be more expensive compared to other types, yet if you are a student of AGU, they become easily accessible for you. That is because AGU provides its students with truly quality and attainable social opportunities. For instance, at weekends in February, AGU students take ski training on Mount Erciyes using transportation from the campus. There is also a Fitness Center at AGU opened this year. Students can use the center free of charge with an online reservation. The fact that the number of students enrolled at AGU is lower in comparison to other universities gives a huge advantage to students here in such matters. There are many social and scientific events organized for students and it is easier to find yourself a spot. You can see many panels and conferences in your own department or on topics you are interested in. One of the biggest advantages of being an AGU student is, without a doubt, the English preparatory program. Throughout the preparatory year, we get an English education which is well beyond the standards and only offered in select universities in Turkey. Besides, international students enrolled at the university give us the chance of speaking more languages. When we take into account the English-medium instruction at all departments, it becomes evident that the preparatory class is the keystone. These are the general points concerning AGU and Kayseri I specifically want to touch upon. As students, we should make good use of these times, gain more experience, use the opportunities offered and graduate with many positive values. I wish all the students a great academic year.
